Big Bang, Big Problems
By RoseAnn Salanitri

Most of us have heard of the Big Bang Theory that evolutionists purport to be a
reasonable theory for how the universe came into existence – or at least that’s what we
are led to believe. The theory had been around a number of years and was not
supported by many physicists, including Albert Einstein, until technology allowed us to
observe the expansion of the universe.  Men of science reasoned that since the
universe was expanding we could assume that originally it was much smaller (the size
of a pinhead). This small dense piece of matter was called a “singularity”, and it
supposedly contained everything that exists in the universe today.  Since the laws of
physics tell us that this is virtually impossible, science stipulated that this theory could
only address the expansion of the matter and not the origins of the matter or the
mechanism that caused the expansion.  In other words, don’t ask us what the
singularity is, how it got there or what caused it to expand, just accept that it’s true. All
attempts to reconcile the formation of the celestial bodies have so far led to more
questions than answers. It seems you need stars to create stars.  And just in case you
have heard about the “Oort Cloud” – a region in space just beyond Pluto where comets
are supposed to be born - you might be interested in knowing that to date no such
region has been found – even with the Hubble telescope.
But is all of the theory a flight of imagination?  Surprisingly – no.   Plasma physics has
suggested that the original form of matter may have been in the form of a type of pure
water, and astrophysicists have suggested that the mechanism that drove the
expansion may have been light.  This is all very interesting from a creationist’s point of
view – especially if you don’t believe in coincidence.  You see the Bible states that the
earliest form of matter was water.  You can read about it in Genesis 1:2.  That’s not all.
The Bible also tells us in Genesis 1:3 that God created light before He expanded
everything on Day 2.
You may be thinking: why aren’t creationists shouting this from the rooftops?  One
problem seems to be that they don’t recognize that the expansion of the cosmos took
place on Day 2.  There are 17 verses in the Bible that tell us God stretched everything
out.  This is remarkable since modern day science discovered this fact during the 20th
century.  By my math, that’s approximately 3500 years after Moses first wrote about it in
Genesis.
It is commonplace to hear creationists tear apart the Big Bang because they say the
sequence is contrary to Genesis.  And it is, especially when we consider that the earth
was created before the celestial bodies.  However, there is some reconciliation when
you consider the Big Bang covers Days 1, 2 and 4 but leaves out Day 3. Again, keep in
mind that the Big Bang came into popularity because it is a theory that attempts to
explain the observed expansion of the universe – an expansion that the Bible clearly
predicted over 3500 years ago!  Like all theories, the Big Bang is subject to revision and
to refining.  To date, those revisions and refinements have brought it closer to the
Biblical account as mentioned before.
On a personal basis, I am excited about the next step closer to the Genesis account
physics will take. This believer is sure that eventually (if the Lord doesn’t return soon)
science will catch up with the Bible and discover that the earth was created before the
celestial bodies.  While those in the natural sciences still laugh at creationists, their
laughing isn’t as loud as it once was.
